Torrents are really making torrential waves in the world today. People from either side of the issue are doing every possible way to turn the tides to their favor.
MediaDefender is on the side of the Anti-torrents. It seeks to protect the copyright of content by all means possible. “By all means possible” means putting fake files and torrents to P2P networks and torrent sites. The idea behind this is to make the system crumble from within. Pretty much like a Trojan Horse being put to Troy, except that they are no Odysseus.
The company received a backlash last December as the value of its stocks was reduced to 70% of what it used to be. Perhaps Torrent-lovers from all over the world united against the company or perhaps Ethan, the hacker, who invited himself into their servers managed to rouse the public to take action against MediaDefender.
Ethan said, in his response to Daniel Roth’s interview at Portfolio.com, that he sneaked through MediaDefender’s servers because of an opening in the firewall. Nothing much happened back in early 2007. However, when Ethan realized what the guys at MediaDefender were doing, such as hacking the Pirate Bay, it became war against the company’s questionable strategies.
