MoveOn moving on to Political Web 2.0

February 11th, 2008 by askweb20

MoveOn appears to be moving on in trying to provide a better take on politics through Web 2.0. At least from what they have been doing, they are able to provide web applications and gadgets that do not smack of propaganda or partisan politics. They now have a semblance of being non-partisan.

Recently, the Senior Editor of The Onion, Peter Koechley, resigned from The Onion and transferred to MoveOn. He managed to complete the VotePoke, which allows users to ask their online friends and buddies to register for the elections. At least this app cannot be considered as a tool for partisan politics.

Facebook did not escape the notice of MoveOn. In recognition of the popularity of the company, MoveOn developed Youth Primary on Facebook, an app designed to allow Facebook members to vote on who they think should be elected to the White House. More than that, the app allows users to raise other issues that are political in nature and enables their buddies to vote on several stands on the issue. The app may also provide good practice for tech-savvy people to look at aggregated data-local, national, and State-level, albeit simple ones.
