New Media Challenges Old Media in 2007

January 11th, 2008 by askweb20

The year 2007 has been a boon for new media. Web 2.0 has gained prominence because it provided people with the opportunity to participate in the creation of content and connecting with all sorts of people in online communities. The good performance of old media in such as print, music, television, and film in the past few decades has been undermined by new media.

Recording companies, movie production outfits, and print publishers have reported losses and lower level of revenues for 2007. In addition to this, the writers who are on strike because of issues of copyright and content ownership have been looking to the Internet to accomplish their goals.

Thankfully, a lot of people in the Old media have recognized the importance of the New. Whenever they tapped on new media with the best intentions and good practices, they managed to reinvent their operations and at the same fatten their purses.

Through new media, it is easier to create, save, and publish different contents—articles, movies and documentaries, and other forms of media. Although there are issues on copyright infringement and other abuse, through the new media, it is easier to control ownership and authorship of the content being published online. New media also makes it possible for people in the old media to make more money.

New media rules in 2007 and this scenario is likely to continue in 2008 and beyond.
